Four FEMA officials axed for allegedly paying NYC hotels to house illegal migrants
The firings consisted of FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist.
Four Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials on Tuesday were fired by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over allegations that the agency paid luxurious New York City hotels $59 million last week to house illegal migrants.
Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reported the alleged payment on Monday, accusing the agency of breaking the law by supplying the funds to house illegal migrants, when its main purpose is to help Americans handle disasters.
FEMA has landed in hot water in the past for allegedly misusing its funds to help illegal migrants. But the agency has denied the allegations, claiming the money used for the border and for disaster relief are from two separate programs.
DHS on Tuesday confirmed the firings in a statement, which consisted of FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist.
"Effective immediately, FEMA is terminating the employment of four individuals for circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants," a department spokesperson said. "Under President [Donald] Trump's and Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people."
The exits come the same day that a United States Office of Special Counsel report found that a former FEMA employee violated the Hatch Act by ordering her staff to avoid houses with Trump campaign signs in Florida during Hurricane Milton.
