Justice Department announces investigation into Minneapolis police department practices

Attorney General Garland made announcement day after a jury found ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murder in George Floyd death.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said Wednesday morning the Justice Department will investigate the Minneapolis Police Department practices, one day after a jury found ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murder in the May 2020 death of George Floyd. 

The federal agency will investigate whether the police department has engaged in a pattern of unconstitutional policing, according to The Wall Street Journal.
