Patel's FBI confirmation hearing expected next week, top Democrat Durbin won't back nomination
Durbin said that FBI agents deserve someone who understands their mission.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing for President Donald Trump's nomination for FBI director, Kash Patel, next week, says the panel's top Democrat, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin.
Durbin says the hearing will be Jan. 29, according to the news website Politico.
As of Wednesday morning, Republicans, who have the majority in the chamber, and on the committee, did not appears to have officially scheduled a hearing.
“Mr. Patel’s political grievances make him a favorite of the MAGA world, but they have not prepared him to work night and day to keep us safe from violent crime, drug trafficking, terrorism, and other threats," Durbin said, according to The Hill newspaper. "Mr. Patel is the wrong choice to lead the FBI.”
