Liam and Olivia are the top baby names in the U.S. for the fourth year in a row

Liam has reigned in first place as the top boys name for six years in a row. Olivia deplatformed Emma as the most popular girls name four years ago.

Liam and Olivia take the top spots as most popular baby names for boys and girls in 2022, according to a list released by the Social Security Administration on Friday.

The agency tracks baby names based on Social Security Number applications that parents apply for shortly after a child is born. It is the ultimate source for compiling the most popular baby names each year, with names dating back to the 1880s. 

Liam has reigned in first place as the top boys name for six years in a row. Olivia de-platformed Emma as the most popular girls name four years ago. 

Coming in second place for boys was Noah and Emma for girls.

In third was Oliver for boys and Charlotte for girls. James, Elijah, William, Henry, Lucas, Benjamin and Theodore followed in boys names.

Amelia, Sophia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Evelyn and Luna were the remaining Top-10 girls names. 

The lists reveal how pop culture influences parents when picking baby names. Characters names from neo-Western show "Yellowstone" have been surfacing on the baby name lists since its release in 2018, according to the Associated Press.

Dutton has climbed up the list of baby names to rank 835, a 986 spot jump from 2021. It’s the last name of a fictional family on the show. Dutton is the fastest rising name in 2022’s Social Security rankings. 

Kayce, as in Kayce John Dutton from the show moved to 587th most popular name from 1,077 in the year before. The character is played by Luke Grimes. 

Last year, 3.64 million babies in the U.S were issued Social Security cards.
