Over 150 explosives seized from Virginia home by FBI, largest supply ever taken by agency
Many of the explosives were found in Brad Spafford's garage and backpack.
The FBI announced it had seized over 150 explosives from a man's home in Virginia earlier this month, which is the largest supply ever obtained by the agency.
Brad Spafford who lives in Smithfield, Virginia, was originally charged for having an unregistered gun. After the FBI searched his home, they found multiple explosives, such as pipe bombs, according to People.
Many of the explosives were found in his garage and a backpack. He was arrested Dec. 17.
Spafford's defense attorneys have argued that there wasn't enough evidence that he was plotting violence to be charged.
“There is not a shred of evidence in the record that Mr. Spafford ever threatened anyone and the contention that someone might be in danger because of their political views and comments is nonsensical," the lawyers wrote, according to The Associated Press.
The investigation into Spafford began after an informant told authorities about Spafford making his own explosives.
The informant told authorities that he used a picture of President Joe Biden for target practice and believed political assassination attempts should come back.
