Severe weather kills at least 5 in Texas, officials say
A sheriff said that a "search and rescue is ongoing," but he expects the number of deceased to rise.
At least five people are dead following powerful storms that destroyed homes and left thousands without power on Sunday in Texas, a local sheriff said.
Three family members were among the deceased after they were found in a home near the rural community of Valley View, near the Oklahoma border, Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington said, The Associated Press reported.
Sappington said that a "search and rescue is ongoing," but he expects the number of deceased to rise.
The storms began Saturday evening. Officials said a tornado north of Dallas caused heavy recreational vehicles to overturn.
