Speaker Johnson calls for federal employees who take part in Gaza 'walkout' to be fired
Employees from the National Park Service, the Departments of State and Veterans Affairs are expected to participate in the walkout.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called for any federal employees who participate in the upcoming Gaza "walkout" to be fired.
"Any government worker who walks off the job to protest U.S. support for our ally Israel is ignoring their responsibility and abusing the trust of taxpayers," Johnson wrote on the social media platform, X. "They deserve to be fired."
According to an exclusive report from AL-Monitor, hundreds of U.S. government employees from 22 different agencies are planning a walkout Tuesday to protest President Biden's Gaza policies amid the Israel-Hamas war.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and I "will be working together to ensure that each federal agency initiates appropriate disciplinary proceedings against any person who walks out on their job," Johnson wrote.
Feds United For Peace told AL-Monitor said the walkout is not a strike, but a "day of mourning."
Employees from the National Park Service, the departments of State and Veterans Affairs are expected to participate in the walkout, according to the report.
