President Trump is considering firing Attorney General Pam Bondi and replacing her with EPA administrator Lee Zeldin, according to reports.

An unnamed source told POLITICO that when Trump met Zeldin on Tuesday to discuss last year’s California wildfires, he also discussed potentially tapping him for the attorney general role. Another anonymous source told the outlet that Bondi will be fired imminently.

Trump has asked people about replacing Bondi, who has a deposition later this month related to the congressional investigation into the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, unnamed sources told CNN. He has also been frustrated that Bondi hasn’t investigated enough of his political opponents.

However, it is unclear if Trump has made up his mind, sources told the media outlet.

Trump told CNN in a statement on Wednesday, “Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job.”

Potentially replacing Bondi with Zeldin first came up in January, then subsided as there was less Epstein coverage in the news, according to sources. The idea began to circulate again in the White House on Monday.

While Zeldin is not seen as a final choice to replace Bondi if she’s fired, as Trump has mentioned other candidates, he is the one most often discussed, according to a source.
