A University of Alabama doctoral student who is also an Iran citizen was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to documents and the school.

Alireza Doroudi, a doctoral student and a citizen of Iran, is being held at a detention facility but it is unclear which one or when he was detained, according to ABC News.

"The University of Alabama recently learned that a doctoral student has been detained off campus by federal immigration authorities," the university said in a statement.

The university said it would comply with immigration laws and with authorities.

It's not clear whether Doroudi has legal representation at this time.

Other international college students in the past month have been detained due to alleged support for the terrorist group Hamas.
