Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino and some of the Border Patrol agents deployed in Minnesota will soon leave the state.

The departure follows intense criticism of immigration enforcement officials operating in Minneapolis amid the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The Department of Homeland Security has defended the conduct of its agents in both instances.

The reasons for Bovino's departure remain unclear. Border Czar Tom Homan is set to arrive in the state, however. President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., had reached out to him and expressed a desire to cooperate.

Also, federal prosecutors reversed themselves Monday, dropping assault charges against a man accused of ramming his vehicle into federal agents during a recent immigration operation.
