House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan has started an investigation into the murder last year of an autistic Maryland woman allegedly by unaccompanied illegal immigrant minor who also is believed to be an MS-13 gang member.

The Ohio Republican on Tuesday sent letters to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra requesting information on behalf of the committee related to the killing.

The unidentified teen was arrest in late January in connection with the July 2022 murder.

Jordan is also asking for details regarding the defendant's immigration case file and screening process.

Jordan, in the letter to Mayorkas, identifies the victim as 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton and says the suspect was arrested Jan. 15, 2023, by the police department in Aberdeen, Maryland.

The defendant reportedly entered the United States in March 2022 in Rio Grande City, Texas.

"Criminal aliens and gang members exploit the U.S. immigration system to harm Americans," Jordan wrote. "The Biden Administration's border and immigration policies only increase the likelihood that those criminal aliens will successfully enter and remain in the U.S."
