New York City crane catches on fire, collapses into building, injuring 6

A crane on a Manhattan high-rise building caught fire and collapsed into a neighboring building Wednesday morning, injuring at least six people, including two firefighters, and causing nearby buildings to be evacuated.
The crane was carrying 16 tons of concrete while operating on a vacant building when machinery in the cabin caught fire around 7:30 a.m., New York City Fire Department said. The crane operator tried to extinguish the fire and left the cabin for safety when he was unable to.
One of the injured firefighters was experiencing chest pains, FDNY First Deputy Fire Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer said.
"The injuries were all minor to four civilians, which included some of the workers, so they were very fortunate," Pfeifer also said.
Part of the crane, which was on a building under construction, also fell onto 10th Avenue.
Video shows people running away from the scene.

Officials said buildings surrounding the high-rise were evacuated over concerns that an additional collapse could occur.
Firefighters in a different building above the crane shot water down on the blaze, video also shows.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
