Army suspends retired 3-star general for tweet criticizing Jill Biden

The Army has suspended a retired three-star lieutenant general for criticizing a tweet from first lady Jill Biden.

Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Jill Biden tweeted, "For nearly 50 years, woman have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies. Today, that right was stolen from us."

Gary Volesky, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the Persian Gulf, tweeted in response, "Glad to see you finally know what a woman is."

Volesky's tweet has since been deleted, but he was released from his role advising senior officers due to the response, according to a report in USA Today. He had formerly signed a $92 an hour contract to advise active duty officers. 

The retired officer was likely referring to the Biden administration's embrace of transgender rights, a cause that has made it increasingly difficult for public officials to come forward and publicly define what constitutes womanhood.

According to a report in March by the Washington Free Beacon, as Russian troops invaded Ukraine in late February, the United States Army was reportedly putting troops through a gender program training and instructing officers on the appropriate time to offer soldiers gender transition surgery. 

According to the New York Post, Volesky was awarded the Silver Star – the third-highest decoration for valor. He commanded the 101st Airborne Division and served as the branch's chief of public affairs from 2012 to 2014.
