The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that over 400 illegal migrants have been arrested so far as part of the Trump administration's "Operation Charlotte's Web" in North Carolina. 

The operation, which is one of several immigration crackdowns in liberal cities this year, began last month after local law enforcement allegedly failed to honor more than 1,400 Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers. 

"[The DHS] continues to target some of the most dangerous criminal illegal aliens as Operation Charlotte’s Web progresses,” a department spokesperson told Epoch Times. “This immigration enforcement surge in the Charlotte area has led to the arrest of over 425 illegal aliens since operations started."

The arrests include illegal migrants who had alleged criminal records that included gang membership, aggravated assault, shoplifting and others, the Associated Press reported last month. It was not clear how many were convicted of serious crimes and how many had charges pending. 

The arrests come the same week that the most recent immigration operation began in New Orleans. Other operations this year have occurred in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
