FBI director says his team is working extremely hard to prevent election meddling
Christopher Wray believes it is likely impossible for a foreign adversary to meddle with final election vote counts
FBI Director Christopher Wray says the American people will be able to trust the voting process as they prepare for the November presidentially election.
In an interview with Fox News' Brett Baier, Wray says that our election infrastructure is nearly impenetrable and it would be almost impossible for a foreign adversary to meddle with final vote counts.
"That doesn't mean that there aren't lots of other ways in which foreign adversaries have tried to interfere," he continued.
In the interview, Wray tells Baier that "misinformation and false influence" are the two most significant threats the American voting public face.
The federal investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into possible Russian interference in the 2016 elections identified unprecedented levels of foreign influence, which has made voter security a priority in the 2020 races.
"My team and I are fiercely committed to making sure we fix the problems of the past," Wray also said.
Some of those problems will be detailed in the forthcoming report by John Durham, who will investigate if there were any signs of political bias in the FBI's investigation of Carter Page, Michael Flynn, and the roots of the Russia probe. Attorney General Barr recently signaled that the report may be published as early as this summer.
