Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a bill that mandates all Texas schools have armed security.

The Republican governor signed the bill into law Tuesday, and it set to go into effect Sept. 1.

The new law would give $330 million to build security centers on campuses and will strengthen the state's school safety center, a local Texas outlet reports.

The law also requires annual audits of school protocol and has all staff undergo mental health training.

Some residents say that this law is a great step in increasing protection for students in schools.

“I think if we have the good guys armed, I think it would minimize deaths,” San Antonio resident April Reyna said in an interview with KSAT.
