Major news outlet confirms reporting that Afghan national terror suspect not vetted as admin claimed
Fox News confirmed a report from Just the News that the recently arrested terror suspect was not approved for a Special Immigrant Visa.
Major news outlet Fox News on Wednesday confirmed reporting from Just the News that the Afghan national recently accused of planning an Election Day terror plot was not granted the special immigration visa that the Biden administration claimed he received after thorough vetting.
Nasir Ahmed Tawhedi, the Afghan refugee charged last week in Oklahoma with plotting an Election Day terror massacre was previously flagged by U.S. Customs Border and Protection this summer, weeks before his arrest, during a re-evaluation of his 2021 entry into the country, according to immigration records reviewed by Just the News and reported Sunday.
The records conflict with the Justice Department’s portrayal of Tawhedi in a criminal indictment filed in an Oklahoma City federal court. The immigration records show the Afghan refugee was let into the country on humanitarian parole on Sept. 9, 2021, and not with a "special immigration visa" (SIV) reserved for foreigners who worked for U.S. agencies as the prosecutors first told the court.
The findings from Just the News conflict with claims from the department of State and Homeland Security that Tawhedi was thoroughly vetted. Fox News reported last week that DHS and State said Tawhedi was approved to enter the country under humanitarian parole and then later applied for and was approved for a Special Immigrant Visa.
But, a senior official told Just the News this weekend that the State Department has no record of him receiving a special immigration visa, as Fox News confirmed on Wednesday.
After a routine evaluation this summer of the Afghan national’s original entry on humanitarian grounds, Tawhedi was referred to Homeland Security Investigations for further probing and flagged by the FBI, the records reviewed by Just the News showed.
Tawhedi was arrested by the FBI last week and charged with multiple crimes including conspiring and attempting to provide material support to ISIS, according to the Justice Department announcement.
