Fort Belvoir has announced it will limit access to the Virginia military base to only Department of Defense-credential individuals, their minor dependents, and individuals with sponsored passes.

Taxis, ride shares, and food deliveries must now meet customers at the base's gates, InsideNova reported.

The change was not in response to any particular incident, Fort Belvoir Deputy Director of Public Affairs Jason Shepherd said.

"The garrison commander reevaluates installation safety and security operations frequently and decided to restrict access to only those with DoD ID cards, their minor dependents, and those sponsored to enter post," Shepherd told InsideNova.

The change remains in effect indefinitely.

In May, two Jordanian nationals driving a truck attempted to breach the nearby Marine Corps Base Quantico.
