Republican congressional nominee for Virginia's 10th congressional district and Navy Veteran Hung Cao says that the military needs to focus on fighting, and not going woke.

"The military is not a social justice experiment," Cao said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "This is a lethal machine that's designed to deter our enemies. If we can't deter them, we need to defeat them, pretty bluntly."

There has been much concern about the increased social justice requirements in the military, such as the Marines considering getting rid of gender identifiers for drill instructors.

"The Army, Navy, and Coast Guard effectively de-emphasize gender in an integrated environment," a report from the Corps of the University of Pittsburgh reads. "Instead of saying 'ma'am' or 'sir,' recruits in these Services refer to their drill instructors using their ranks or roles followed by their last names. Gendered identifiers prime recruits to think about or visually search for a drill instructor's gender first, before their rank or role."

According to Cao, part of the reason military recruitment numbers are so low is because of the woke ideology.

"The army last year fell 25% short of its recruiting goals which is 15,000," he said. "Which is less than what they needed to recruit last year and the Navy barely met their goals.

"We need to get back to basics," Cao concluded. "We need to train these young men and women to fight, not to look at pronouns."
