November 2023 sees the most illegal immigrant encounters for any November on record
Most of the encounters, about 57%, were of single adults.
November 2023 saw the highest number of illegal immigrant encounters by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for any November on record, according to new data.
With nearly 309,000 encounters, November 2023 is also the third-highest month for encounters on record, only being surpassed by September and October 2023, according to CPB data.
Most of the encounters, about 57%, were of single adults. Additionally, nearly 79% of encounters occurred along the southern border.
Senior CBP official Troy Miller acknowledged the difficulties agents face implementing the rule of law along the border.
"We are facing a serious challenge along the southwest border and CBP and our federal partners need more resources from Congress — as outlined in the supplemental budget request — to enhance border security and America’s national security," he said.
The number of illegal immigrant encounters at the southern border is up nearly 10% so far this fiscal year, which runs from October 2023 through September 2024, compared to the same time frame last year, which saw a record of more than 3.2 million encounters.
