Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday implemented first lady Melania Trump's localized humanitarian ceasefire in the settlement of Oleshky to allow for a civilian evacuation.

The first lady announced plans for a local ceasefire earlier this month.

"The ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia took effect at 4:00am Moscow time on October 27, 2026," the first lady posted on social media. "Timing was accelerated two days ahead of schedule to protect the safety of civilians and to facilitate the delivery of critical humanitarian aid."

"The ceasefire’s geographic area has expanded beyond Oleshky, within the Kherson Region, to provide safe passage for the humanitarian convoys," she added. "General Valery Gerasimov, Joint Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has confirmed."

Oleshky is a town on the eastern shore of the Dnieper River. It is currently under Russian control and is part of the disputed Kherson Oblast. The regional capital of Kherson sits opposite the town on the Ukrainian side of the river.

While the first lady has generally eschewed the spotlight during her husband's time in office, she has been an active figure in humanitarian causes linked to the Ukraine War, most notably working to reunite families separated during the early stages of the war.
