Sen. Johnson: GOP should use leverage with Dems for border security in exchange for Ukraine funding
"Democrats want funding for Ukraine," Johnson said. "We need to insist that before any funds flow to Ukraine, we have the process in place to secure our border."
Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., says that Republicans should use the leverage they have to get funding for border security in exchange for funding Ukraine.
"It should be the president's top priority to secure that border and eliminate this clear and present danger," Johnson said in reference to the southern border on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "And yet, the Biden administration is clinging to their desire for open borders and are ignoring it, calling it a challenge. Their solution is more funding to speed up the processing and dispersing of more illegal immigrants."
"So Republicans have to use the leverage we have," he added. "Democrats want funding for Ukraine. We need to insist that before any funds flow to Ukraine, we have the process in place to secure our border."
Border security has been a top priority for Republicans in Congress and many of them have criticized Biden for not doing enough to stop the massive flow of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. since he took office.
"Because we have a lawless administration, we have a president who ignores Supreme Court rulings, and one that wants an open border, we have to insist that any funding is contingent on them meeting actual benchmarks," Johnson said.
A House Judiciary Committee report found that the Biden Administration has released 2.1 million illegal immigrants into the U.S. from the border as of March 2023.
