Sen. Tuberville says GOP will have 'no choice' but to support blocking funds for migrant processing
Tuberville said he believed that former President Donald Trump is the only president who can truly handle the border and shut it down.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., is on the growing list of Republicans who support blocking funds for migrant processing in order to get the southern border under control.
"We have no choice," Tuberville said in an upcoming interview on the Wednesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show when asked about the idea. "I mean, we're giving $40,000 a year to every illegal that comes across the border. We can't afford to do this."
During a private meeting with border patrol agents in Eagle Pass, Texas last week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted that the release rate for illegal immigrants apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border is "above 85%," sources told Fox News.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, suggested the idea on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show of suspending funds for processing and releasing illegal migrants into the U.S.
"I think we should just say ... no money can be used to process or release into the country any new migrants," Jordan said last week. "The problem is so egregious and so bad. We gotta just say 'timeout. Suspend entry.'"
Tuberville said he believed that former President Donald Trump is the only president who can truly handle the border and shut it down.
"President Trump is the only one that can get this done," he said. "He can shut the border down and get us out of all these wars so we can start working on our debt. I don't see anybody out there right now that's even thinking about running for president that will do what President Trump can do."
