The Pentagon said Friday it helped reinstate eight South Carolina National Guard helicopter pilots who were suspended this week over a low-altitude flyover during the state's "Salute from the Shore" event celebrating America's 250th birthday.

Video of the eight Apache helicopters conducting the flyover on a South Carolina beach as fans cheered and waved flags on Saturday quickly went viral, but it was reported Thursday that those pilots were all suspended pending an investigation.

War Secretary Pete Hegseth promised to help reverse the suspension in a social media post Thursday night, which Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed went through the next morning.

"Effective immediately, the suspension of all involved South Carolina pilots has been lifted," Parnell wrote on X. "Carry on Patriots."

South Carolina National Guard spokesperson Maj. Lisa Alle clarified in a statement to a Fox News affiliate on Thursday that the suspension was intended to be temporary, and the pilots remained in good standing with the military. The pilots were still paid and still worked amid the suspension.

"We want to assure the community that a temporary suspension from flight duties is a routine administrative measure whenever a flight profile is under review," she said. "This is not punitive."

The South Carolina National Guard has also confirmed that the suspensions were lifted.
