President Donald Trump on Thursday reshaped a post calling to hang a group of Democratic lawmakers who posted a video urging the military and intelligence community to defy "illegal" orders from the White House.

"Hang them George Washington would," read the post, which Trump shared without comment. Earlier this week, Democratic members of the House and Senate appear in a video in which they touted their service bona fides and promised to support military and intelligence community officials who defied Trump.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., appeared in the video.

"This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???" Trump said of the video. He subsequently called their conduct "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!"

High-profile Democratic leaders condemned Trump's response.

"The President of the United States of America just called for the death of Democratic lawmakers.

This man is sick in the head," said Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif.
