President Donald Trump on Monday insisted that the rest of the world should reimburse the United States for its efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping once the Iran war came to an end.

U.S. forces have maintained a blockade of the critical waterway, working to prevent Tehran from harassing commercial shipping and to keep energy prices stable.

"Oil is flowing through the Hormuz Strait. The Countries of the World, which have been no help to us whatsoever, should, and will, reimburse the United States of America when this SCAM Confligration [sic] is all over," he posted on Truth Social. "We are doing it much more for others, than we are for ourselves, and we have been for Generations!"

Trump also blamed former President Joe Biden for energy costs, saying that "price increases throughout America were caused by Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration."

"Even Oil was higher under Biden than it is right now, and we prevented Iran from having a Nuclear Weapon!" he added. "With the temporary exception of Oil, prices are coming down sharply, and Oil will drop like a rock as soon as the Military Conflict with Iran is over, and that will not be long."

Trump's comments follow earlier posts seemingly meant to calm energy markets. Earlier in the day, he insisted that Iran wanted to negotiate a quick end to the conflict and also stated that Russia and Ukraine had both agreed to stop targeting one another's energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, later stated that Kyiv had merely proposed an end to strikes on energy targets, but that an agreement with Russia had not been reached.

These developments came as Brent Crude oil surged as high as $110 per barrel on Monday and U.S. 10-year Treasury yields hit 5% for the first time since 2007.
