President Donald Trump on Thursday withdrew his nomination of an Oklahoma state trooper to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Lance Shroyer had received Trump's nod for the post, but Sen. Rand Paul's, R-Ky., demands for information from the agency caused his nomination to lose momentum, Politico reported.

The outlet highlighted Paul's longstanding disagreements with now-Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, suggesting that the dynamic had contributed to Shroyer's stalled nomination.

ICE has been without a Senate-confirmed director since 2017. Neither Trump nor former President Joe Biden ever saw a nominee secure confirmation.
