Wisconsin Rep. Grothman praises Trump for slamming Republicans who want to increase retirement age
Grothman said that statement from Trump was him sticking up for the average man.
Congressman Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., praised former President Donald Trump Thursday for calling out Republicans who want to raise the retirement age for seniors.
"I was glad to see Donald Trump knock them down," he said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "You can be a congressman at age 70. Because it's not that physically demanding of a job. But if you've got a physically demanding job, it can be very difficult to work that hard."
Some Republicans have discussed potentially raising the age of retirement through changes to social security and Medicare, according to NBC News.
"I will always protect social security and Medicare for our great seniors," Trump said at a recent Wisconsin rally. "They want to also increase the average age... They want to increase it. We're not doing any of that."
Grothman said that statement from Trump was him sticking up for the average man.
"Glad Donald Trump once more time is sticking out for the average guy against some of these out of touch congressmen and telling them, 'hey, if you plan on raising this Social Security age on my watch, forget it.'"
Wisconsin GOP Chairman Brian Schimming also praised the 45th president for his remarks.
"That's always been a cornerstone: scare everyone and scare folks who get Social Security and get Medicare. It's an issue for the Democrats. They try to motivate them against Republicans. So they want those two issues, and Donald Trump took them off the table the other night."
