Biden will travel to Buffalo Tuesday, following mass shooting

President Joe Biden will travel to Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday to meet with victims of a racially motivated mass shooting this past weekend.

The visit was announced Sunday by the White House and also said the president will speaks with the families of some of those killed Saturday. 

Ten people were killed at a Buffalo grocery store by a gunman who posted a racist manifesto online before opening fire in a predominantly black part of town. The gunman had traveled hours from a different New York county and live-streamed his attack on social media platform Twitch. 

"We're still gathering the facts, but already, the Justice Department has stated publicly that it's investigating the matter as a hate crime, racially motivated act of white supremacy and violent extremism," Biden said Sunday at the annual National Peace Officers Service in Washington, D.C.

"As they do, we must all work together to address the hate that remains a stain on the soul of America. Our hearts are heavy once again, but our resolve must never waver."

During an appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), a native of Buffalo, said, "I have 10 dead neighbors in this community. And it hurts."
