White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that while the Democrats are focusing on making a scandal out of top administration discussions on an attack on Houthi rebels in the unknown presence of a journalist, the Trump administration is focused on combatting the Iran-backed terror group.

“President Joe Biden was the commander in chief and he sat on his hands while the United States of America was bullied and embarrassed by terrorists," Leavitt said during a press briefing. "President Trump and his team are putting a stop to these threats in restoring American strength around the world."

The Houthis are one of the main combatants in the ongoing Yemeni civil war and have disrupted shipping in the Red Sea amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Earlier this month Trump ordered airstrikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.

Leavitt said that multiple Houthi leaders were killed in the strike.

"United States forces successfully struck dozens of targets across Houthi controlled territory," she said. "And as a result of these actions, several Houthi leaders were killed, including the Houthi drone chief, his deputy, and several of their drone experts and other key leaders. We also destroyed command and controlled facilities."

Leavitt also said: “Unfortunately, this is not what the Democrats in the media want to talk about. They are focused on a coordinated campaign to try and sow chaos in this White House. This has been the most successful first two months of any administration ever."

Trump’s senior national security officials accidentally shared sensitive details about strike plans on the Houthi  group in Yemen with editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg through the encrypted messaging app Signal.
