Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said that President Joe Biden's campaign isn't going well after mainstream media outlets called out his poor debate performance.

“Democrats have a real problem, any Democrat has a real problem —if you lose the media, and Biden lost the media, overnight, after that debate,” Johnson said during a Friday interview on Fox News.

“It’s pretty difficult because Democrats can lie, they can enact policies that are disastrous to this country, but as long as the media’s on their side covering up for ‘em, they can survive," he continued.

Following Biden's debate with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, mainstream media outlets including The Washington Post and the BBC wrote stories critical of his debate performance. The New York Times was the first major publication to call for Biden to step down, just one day after the debate.

Several Democratic leaders have called for Biden to suspend or end his campaign, but he has said repeatedly he is staying in the race.

The next televised presidential debate is in September and will be hosted by ABC News.

“The minute they lose the media, they really are toast,” Johnson said, according to The Hill.
