President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump spoke on the phone on Monday, a day after the Secret Service thwarted a possible second assassination attempt on Trump.

Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested on Sunday and charged on Monday for the alleged assassination attempt. Routh allegedly stalked the former president at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday and had aimed his gun at Trump before he was spotted by Secret Service. No shots were fired by Routh.

Trump said that the conversation, which he described as "very nice" to CNN, was about Secret Service protection.

Several House members have also called for more security to be added to Trump's detail, now that two plans to assassinate Trump have been made. The first attempt was made in July, when the former president was hit in the ear by a bullet.

"President Biden just spoke with former President Trump, and conveyed his relief that he is safe," White House spokesperson Emilie Simons posted to X. "The two shared a cordial conversation and former President Trump expressed his thanks for the call."

The president also expressed his relief at Trump's safety to reporters earlier Monday, and said the Secret Service should get the resources it needs to keep the former president safe.

“I think the Congress should respond to their needs, if they, in fact, need more Service people," Biden said, according to The Hill. "So, that’s what we’re going to be talking about."

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe also called for more support from Congress on Monday, agreeing that the agency needed more resources in order to function at its very best.
