White House press secretary refuses to say if Biden supports any limits on abortion
"I'm not going to get into specifics here," spokesperson said when asked directly.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre this week flatly refused to clarify whether or not President Joe Biden supports any limits at all on abortion, deflecting repeated requests to lay out the president's position on one of the most contentious issues in modern American politics.
Asked repeatedly by Fox News' Peter Doocy whether Biden supports "any limits on abortion," Jean-Pierre dodged the question several times, at one point insisting, "I'm not going to get into specifics here."
Asked several times by Doocy why she wasn't addressing his question, Jean-Pierre claimed, "I answered your question."
The tense exchange was touched off by Jean-Pierre's criticism of a national Republican plan to outlaw abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, something the press secretary said would "take us backwards."
A post-15-week ban on abortion is broadly common throughout much of the world. Many countries in Europe outlaw the procedure at around that time in pregnancy, with some banning it even earlier.
