Jeffries indicates impeaching Trump is not a priority for Democrats after midterm blue wave
Democrats won the majority in both chambers of Congress during Tuesday night's midterms and Jeffries is on track to become House speaker next year.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries insisted Wednesday that Democratic lawmakers are not actively lobbying him to impeach President Donald Trump when the party takes control of the chamber in January.

Jeffries indicated that Democrats plan to listen to American concerns when it comes to issues important to them like affordability and accountability.
“I haven’t had a single member of the House Democratic Caucus talk to me about impeachment," Jeffries said in a news conference. "We’ve been relentlessly focused on affordability and on accountability because the House is a separate and co-equal branch of government.
“We recognize that we don’t work for Donald Trump," he continued. "We don’t work for J.D. Vance. We don’t work for the Supreme Court. We work for the American people."
The Democratic leader said he has not heard from the president so far but that he will be speaking to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer about a way for both chambers to move forward next week.
The denial of impeachment comes after former Vice President Kamala Harris warned Democrats last week not to focus on impeaching Trump, who was impeached twice in his first term but acquitted by the Senate.
Harris urged lawmakers to focus on investigations and accountability along with ending the war in Iran.
