Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that President Donald Trump has given the final approval on giving Ukraine licenses to build Patriot missiles after the pair met at the United Nations General Assembly this week.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations, where the pair also discussed an energy truce between Kyiv and Moscow after Ukrainian drones struck Russian refineries earlier this year, causing U.S. oil prices to rise.

Zelensky said that he expects to speak with Trump again next week to further discuss the "general" matters the leaders talked about at the UN, after Zelensky briefs Europe on the discussions and the U.S. briefs Russia.

"There are concrete agreements regarding Patriot licenses," Zelensky said on X. "At our meeting, President Trump stressed that he had made his final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles."

Zelensky also said the pair discussed a trilateral meeting between Russia, the U.S. and Ukraine, which would take place in the United Arab Emirates, though no date has been proposed so far. The U.S. will plan the meeting.

The Ukrainian leader has long pushed the U.S. to allow it to build Patriot defense systems for “winter” warfare. Russia has recently escalated its attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure ahead of the winter.
