Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Monday night that President Donald Trump has approved the execution by Army firing squad of convicted terrorist and shooter Nidal Malik Hasan.

Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, was convicted in 2013 of fatally shooting 13 people in 2009 and injuring 32 others at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

The date and location of the shooting has not been selected.

"Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009," Parnell said on X.

"He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting 'Allahu Akbar' during the attack," he continued. "The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgment day for Hasan has finally come."

Hasan's execution will mark the first death sentence the military has carried out since 1961, when U.S. Army Private John Bennett was executed by hanging at the gallows of the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
