President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to resume bombings on Iran if the Tehran government did not agree to a permanent deal to end the war.

The conflict began in late February and has seen the U.S. struggle to extract meaningful concessions from Iran. Talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, failed to achieve a deal and Trump has repeatedly insisted that Iran's internal divisions are to blame.

"Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end, and the highly effective Blockade will allow the Hormuz Strait to be OPEN TO ALL, including Iran," he posted on Truth Social. "If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

The Trump administration has sought a commitment from Iran to never possess a nuclear weapon and to reduce its ballistic missile arsenal, though Iranian leadership has publicly refused such terms.

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who is reportedly still recovering from serious injuries, issued a public statement explicitly vowing to protect Iran's nuclear capabilities and missile program this month.
