President Donald Trump has announced plans to transform East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., into a championship golf course designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio.

In a social media post, Trump said the Department of the Interior, under Secretary Doug Burgum, developed the plan in collaboration with Fazio.

The course would remain open to the public and designed to host major tournaments, including the U.S. Open and PGA Championship.

“When completed, it will be open to the public while, at the same time, designed to the highest level of golf,” Trump wrote.

Trump criticized the current course’s condition, calling it “old, broken, dilapidated,” and citing hazardous trees and a collapsing seawall.

He said restoration work would begin Nov. 15, when the existing course closes, with the new facility expected to open in approximately 15 months.

Trump also predicted the project would create jobs and boost the local economy, saying it would have “a tremendously positive Economic Development impact on Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area.”

He added that the United States Golf Association, PGA of America and PGA Tour had been notified of the plans, though the announcement did not confirm any commitments to host tournaments at the site.
