House Democrats refer Energy Sec. Wright to DOJ for prosecution for allegedly lying to congress
The decision on whether to prosecute Wright will be made by the Department of Justice. Lying to Congress is a federal crime usually prosecuted as making a false statement (18 U.S.C. § 1001) or as perjury (18 U.S.C. § 1621) if the person spoke under oath. Both offenses carry a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.
