Three people were killed and at least one person was hospitalized Wednesday in what's being described by law enforcement as a "mass shooting."

The Caswell County Sheriff's office responded to a call just before 8 a.m. Wednesday at a home in Prospect Hill, North Carolina.

When deputies arrived, they found several people who had been shot. One person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, WFMY reported. Investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to try to determine what happened.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon that all the victims and shooter were adults and members of the same family, according to NBC News. The suspect was one of the three people killed.

Authorities said there is no threat to the general public, and the shooting was contained to the home.

“This was an isolated incident," Durden said. "Please keep the family in your prayers."
