A northern Virginia man has pleaded guilty to charges of impersonating an FBI agent at a voting site during the 2024 elections.

The defendant, Alex Chieu Nguyen, of Annandale, Virginia, pleaded guilty Friday to going to Timber Lane Elementary School, which had been set up as a polling place on Nov. 5, 2024 for Election Day. 

He arrived at the Falls Church school in a black SUV and was wearing dark sunglasses, a blue zippered sweatshirt with the FBI logo, a fake badge and a holster with an air pistol resembling a Glock handgun, according to news radio station WTOP.

The 44-year-old Nguyen told election officials and greeters he was assigned to the FBI’s “Election Security, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Nguyen then entered the building in which voting was taking place, showed the site’s chief election official the fake badge, then left the school. He was arrested later that day.

Nguyen faces up to three years in prison at his sentencing, which is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2027, also according to WTOP.
