U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta on Saturday ordered the force-feeding of a prisoner accused of shooting two members of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.

Rahmanullah Lakanwal was previously hospitalized after refusing to eat, prompting the Department of Justice to seek the order, according to the Associated Press. The order permits authorities to involuntarily feed him until Oct. 28.

Lakanwal stands accused of the death of National Guard Spc. Sarah Beckstrom and the shooting of Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe. He has pleaded not guilty.

The incident took place in November of 2025. The police report claimed that Lakanwal shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack.
