Alphabet’s Waymo said it has suspended its robotaxi service on U.S. freeways and temporarily halted operations in Atlanta while it updates software to improve performance in construction zones and on flooded roads.

Waymo has been accelerating its expansion of robotaxi services across the U.S., amid increasing competition from rivals.

Tesla and Zoox are expanding their efforts in the autonomous ride-hailing sector. 

The decision to suspend its service on freeways and in Atlanta made on Thursday, according to reports.
