Trump calls for declaring Dan Sullivan victor in Alaska Senate race
Republicans have accused the Peltola campaign of recruiting the second "Dan Sullivan" to serve as a spoiler candidate, which they have denied.
President Donald Trump on Thursday called for declaring Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, the winner of the state's Senate contest, saying that he would have won outright if not for the presence of another "Dan Sullivan" on the ballot.
The contest between Sullivan and former Rep. Mary Peltola, D-Alaska, remains too close to call, with neither candidate securing 50% of the vote. Alaska has ranked-choice voting, meaning the votes of lower-performing candidates will be allocated to to the top vote getters until one candidate secures a majority.
"The vote totals for the Fake Dan Sullivan, plus the other “slug” that the Dems put on the Ballot, should be immediately given to the REAL Dan Sullivan, and the Election is over - He easily wins. There is no other fair solution!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
As of press time, Peltola leads with 48.17% of the vote, to Sullivan’s 47.88%. The third place candidate, Gerald Heikes, is also a Republican, and earned 2.27%. The other "Dan Sullivan" took 1.68% of the vote.
