Trump to Senate: 'Pass the Save America Act!'
Many Republican leaders have balked at the prospect of reforming procedure in the Senate and the bill remains unpassed.
President Donald Trump on Friday made clear his increasing frustration with the Republican Senate, urging them to pass a marquis voter ID bill after months of public pressure.
"Stop playing games and PASS THE SAVE AMERICA ACT!" he posted on Truth Social.
The Save America Act is a nationwide voter ID bill that has strong support from the Trump-aligned base conservative voter. In recent months, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has faced considerable pressure to reform the chamber rules to avoid the 60-vote filibuster threshold.
Nevertheless, many Republican leaders have balked at the prospect of reforming procedure in the Senate and the bill remains unpassed.
Trump's frustrations with the Senate has become increasingly apparent due to his willingness to endorse against incumbent senators, which resulted in the primary defeat of Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and his endorsement of Texas AG Ken Paxton over Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.
