The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee published Wednesday the transcript of its interview with former JPMorgan Chase executive Jes Staley regarding his connection to the late-convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Staley was interviewed by the panel last month and was primarily known for being responsible for the banking giant’s 15-year relationship with Epstein. The bank itself has denied being complicit with Epstein’s criminal activities. 

The former executive admitted in the transcript that he had a consensual sexual encounter with someone who he described as “an assistant to Epstein” around 2009 or 2010, but that he did not know if the woman was paid by Epstein. 

The interview, which took place July 24, was part of the panel's investigation into the federal government's handling of the Epstein case and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Staley consented to a voluntary transcribed interview with the committee. 

Following Epstein's arrest and death, Staley came under scrutiny in a lawsuit filed by the disgraced financier's victims, who argued in court filings that JPMorgan Chase and Staley ignored red flags that helped enable Epstein to traffic women and girls. JPMorgan Chase settled the case in 2023 for $290 million.
