A group of First Amendment advocates sued the Trump administration over its attempt to bar Politico, CNN, and MSNOW from the White House, contending that the move interfered with news consumer rights.

Six individual plaintiffs, including two Yale faculty members and four journalists, brought the challenge, which argues that "[t]he Policy violates the First Amendment because it imposes viewpoint-based and unreasonable restrictions on newsgathering and reporting in a limited public forum—the White House Press Forum—thereby burdening Plaintiffs’ right to receive information."

The plaintiffs specifically ask the court to declare the policy a violation of the First Amendment, block its enforcement, and award them attorneys' fees.

The development marks the latest legal setback to Trump's myriad attempts to restrict access to his administration from journalists whom he deems unfriendly or biased.
