Immigrants from Ukraine and Sudan who are enrolled in the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) policy will continue to be protected from deportation for the time being.

Thousands of Ukrainian and hundreds of Sudanese immigrants are enrolled in the program. The Department of Homeland Security told CBS News that the protections remain tentative, but the protections the program affords will continue past Monday, when they were set to expire.

Trump administration officials have called the TPS a de facto amnesty policy, which they say the Biden administration used to encourage illegal immigration, and the temporary program has been extended too long. Protections under the program have been revoked for more than 1 million immigrants from over a dozen countries, including Afghanistan, Haiti and Venezuela.

The DHS told CBS that final decisions on the fate of the program for Ukrainian and Sudanese immigrants will "be made at an appropriate time."
