Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao confirmed Wednesday night that the Department of the Navy has suspended an official who was caught bashing President Donald Trump and his administration on a hidden camera.

Investigative journalist James O'Keefe secretly recorded the Navy secretary's Director of Business Operations Brandon Newsom while the pair were out on a "date." 

Newsom claimed in O'Keefe's footage that the president is a "narcissist" and criticized the war in the Middle East. 

“Yeah. I think it's [War in Iran] completely stupid, but it's driven on one man’s [President Trump] ego to me, in my own personal opinion," he said.

The Pentagon official also said he plans to stay with the department past the Trump administration so he can "undo whatever's been done [at the Pentagon]" once the president leaves office.

Newsom said one thing that he would like to change is the Pentagon's monthly voluntary faith service policy, which is strictly Christian, and he would like to make it a prayer service for all religions. 

Cao said Newsom has been placed on administrative leave while the department considers its next steps and that the statements the official made are "inappropriate and incompatible with the standards expected of Department personnel."

"The Department of the Navy takes the conduct shown in this video extremely seriously," Cao said on X. "Effective immediately, this individual has been placed on administrative leave while we determine next steps to ensure accountability and protect the integrity of our mission."
