Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is being investigated for possession of child sexual images after his son reported to police that he'd discovered the images.

Thomas Markle Jr. told police that he discovered "hundreds, if not thousands" of child sex abuse images in four large boxes at his father's home, The Sun reported. Markle Jr. told police the alleged photos were mixed together with innocent family mementos.

Markle Jr. also said that he reported what he said he found to the FBI hotline, the US-based National Center for Exploited and Missing Children and the state police in Pennsylvania where his father was living, on July 10.

The elder Markle had left the home in May after suffering a stroke and a blood clot leading to an amputation of his left leg. Markle Jr. had discovered the images, he said, while searching for a phone for his Filipino girlfriend's father in boxes of his father's belongings.
